AS THE WINNER OF THE 2018 GEM AWARD FOR JEWELRY DESIGN

The Jewelers of America (JA), the national trade association for businesses serving the fine jewelry marketplace, announced Irene Neuwirth as the winner of the 2018 The GEM Award for Jewelry Design. Winners were announced on January 19, 2018, during the 16th Annual GEM Awards at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York City.

A GEM Award is considered one of the highest honors bestowed on professionals and companies serving the fine jewelry and watch industries. The GEM Award for Jewelry Design is given to an individual for excellence in jewelry design.

This is Irene’s second nomination for the GEM Award for Jewelry Design and first win.

Irene Neuwirth is an independent, fine jewelry company based in Los Angeles. Founded in 2003 by designer Irene Neuwirth, the company has emerged as a leading jewelry brand in the US, recognized by its uniquely modern and sophisticated designs. Irene’s collections are widely anticipated season to season by a fashion-forward and discriminating clientele, who have come to expect a line that delivers a precise balance between timeless, collectable jewelry and the ultimate statement in modern luxury. The jewelry has generated tremendous editorial attention and is featured consistently in top publications and is worn by some of the most beautiful women in the world, including Ruth Negga, Naomi Watts, Julianne Moore, Charlize Theron, Zoe Saldana, Sarah Paulson and Reese Witherspoon. In 2008, Irene was a finalist for the coveted CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund, the pre-eminent honor for young American fashion designers. In 2009, she became a member of the CFDA. In July of 2013 she was also the recipient of the WJA’s Design Award for Excellence in Fine Jewelry. She was nominated consecutively in 2012, 2013 and 2014 for a CFDA Award, the Swarovski Award for Accessory Design; in 2014 she won the award. That same year, Irene opened her own flagship store on the tree lined street Melrose Place in West Hollywood. The jewel box space was designed by Pam Shamshiri of Commune and marked the first time Irene’s vision was realized in a full brand experience. In 2015, 2016 and again in 2017, Irene was nominated for the prestigious CFDA Accessory Designer of the Year Award.
