Born in Istanbul’s Samatya district in 1972, Turkish jewelry designer -Sevan Bıçakçı, is best known as the "King of Rings”, for hand carved intaglio's with inverted carved stones. At the young age of 12, he began his apprenticeship under master jeweler - Hovvsep Catak, the much-respected Armenian jeweler.

Sevan is inspired by Istanbul's mystical charms, mythology and mixed religious symbols. Nature, Byzantine architecture and his love of history also play an important part in his reations. Such masterpieces depict majestic Ottoman mosques to fairy-tale like steeples, butterflies symbolizing transformation to pomegranates and peacocks promoting fertility. Many view his pieces as talismans, bringing protection, good luck and lasting love.

Unveiling his first collection in March 2002, Sevan continues to create one-of-a-kind jewels, crafted from high-karat gold, sterling silver and a host of uniquely cut gemstones. The techniques he has pioneered include metal-based painting, engraving, calligraphy, intaglio carving (reverse gemstone carving) and micro-mosaic setting.
