If Palm Beach had a dress code, it would probably include oversized sunglasses, a hint of sparkle and a healthy appreciation for diamonds. This is why it felt perfectly fitting to catch up with the ever-iconic Nicole Richie during her visit to Royal Poinciana Plaza, where she popped up at Marissa Collections—one of Palm Beach’s most beloved treasure troves of fashion. For anyone who grew up glued to episodes of The Simple Life (and honestly, who didn’t?), Richie has long embodied that effortlessly cool West Coast style: a little bohemian, a little rock ’n’ roll and entirely her own. We caught up with the designer and tastemaker to chat about Palm Beach, personal style and why, in a town like this, diamonds and sunshine are simply meant to go hand in hand.

You’re in town for your pop-up at Marissa Collections—what excites you most about bringing House of Harlow here to Palm Beach? There’s a natural appreciation for glamour here that feels very aligned with House of Harlow. I love bringing the collection into a space where women already understand the power of personal style and collecting pieces over time. It becomes less about shopping and more about storytelling.

Have you had a chance to explore the local restaurant scene yet? Any favorite spots or standout meals? I have yet to explore the scene, but I always gravitate toward places that feel joyous, and food that feels fresh and delicious. Palm Beach does that beautifully.

Palm Beach women have a way of mixing heirloom pieces with modern fashion. How do you approach layering jewelry to feel both timeless and current? I think the key is contrast. Something very refined next to something with personality. When you mix pieces that feel like they’ve been collected at different moments in your life, it naturally creates depth, and that’s what makes it modern.

House of Harlow has always felt personal. How has your vision for the brand evolved over time? In the beginning it was very much about self-expression. Now it’s about intention. Every piece is designed to feel like it has permanence—something you live in, pass down and attach memories to. It’s less trend-driven and more about emotional longevity.

Do you design with a specific woman in mind, or is she more of a mood or energy? It’s always an energy. She’s layered, she’s curious, she mixes high and low, old and new. She dresses for herself and her life, not for a moment.

What daily rituals or practices help you stay inspired? Quiet mornings, reading and being offline for a stretch of time. I need space to observe—whether that’s travel, music or just watching how women naturally wear their jewelry.

Your style has always embodied that effortless West Coast ease. How would you translate that into a Palm Beach wardrobe? Lightness in fabrication and strong, fabulous accessories!

We know you love reading when you travel—what are you currently reading? Lost Lambs by Madeline Cash.

What’s your ultimate accessory—the one thing you feel incomplete without? My jewelry. It’s the final layer that ties everything together.

What’s one piece of style advice you swear by? Wear your pieces every day. Don’t save them for an occasion. Style becomes meaningful when it’s lived in.
