Zac Posen continued the romantic saga he spun for resort via a collection that delivered sophistication with a dash of youthful vitality, to mostly good results.
He said in his show notes that the layering of prints and color tonalities were meant to evoke a modern-day Sarah Bernhardt, the famous French actress from the Belle Epoque period. Posen’s soft palette, flounced ruffles and satin corsetry were cases in point. His opening look, a pale pink sleeveless dress in hand-plissé silk, flowed softly to the knees from the curves and swirls they formed around the bodice. It nodded to the designer’s reference while still appearing modern.
An evening number was less successful — the wisteria-printed silk blouse dowdily fell in tiers around the shoulders, worn with questionable taffeta ball pants.
As always, Posen offered structure in his signature va-va-voom gowns, but the real story here was the romance that told a mostly sweet tale.
