Sass & Bide RTW Spring 2014

“We wanted it to be a tale of many worlds and channel those into a polished aesthetic,” stated Heidi Middleton of Sass and Bide. “I’m calling it ‘considered chaos.’”

Her assertion was quite right. While the collection Middleton and codesigner Sarah-Jane Clarke presented did have abundant references — tailoring, short and long, flirty dresses, a grid print, embroideries and more — it came together well. Some looks were sharply tailored and featured trendy elements, like their first exit: a black blazer and short skirt with a long mesh black point d’esprit overlay.

And while a white suit with a floral embroidered blazer and chiffon overlay brought a polished element to the lineup, a flirty short dress in an orange, white and green leaf print with ruffles at the side livened things up. Overall, it worked because each look seemed balanced, and nothing was overtly crafty or too heavily layered.
