Runway Review | Carven Pre-Fall 2014
For the first time, Guillaume Henry designed his women’s pre-fall collection in conjunction with his men’s fall collection — the reason why he showed a few pre-fall looks on his men’s runway in Paris last week.
The lineups shared some of the same fabrics, not to mention a common inspiration: street gangs, but those of Paris’ Left Bank (Henry is very attached to the Saint Germain des Près area where his headquarters are based). A graffiti print, one of the main motifs in the collection, was based on the sepia and black-and-white hues of vintage photos, and was worked on looks mixed with lace bib-front shirts in abstract motifs and sporty tartan bomber jackets.
There were also charming toggle dresses and jackets with exaggerated collars, and short A-line skirts paired with cropped sweaters in chunky cable knit or ribbing.
