Exclusive Interview with Bochic Jewelry Designers Miriam Salat and David Aaron Joseph

Here at Marissa Collections we love jewelry. Making our eyes (and wardrobes) twinkle with the most precious stones, eclectic designs, and unique metals, Bochic Jewelry has been making waves in the fashion world with their fresh and luxurious creations. Being a fan ourselves, we are thrilled to be hosting a Bochic Trunk Show beginning Thursday, December 8th showcasing some of their impeccably crafted designs. Recently, we spoke with the design duo, Miriam Salat and David Aaron Joseph, to learn just how Bochic came to sparkle.
Marissa Collections (MC): What originally inspired you to design jewelry?
Bochic: The Bochic woman, of course! Quite a while back, Miriam and I took a trip to Positano, Italy – and during our travels we began to discuss a concept for a new company. While on the ferry ride from Positano to Capri, we noticed this phenomenal woman—a true modern day Grace Kelly—dressed head to toe in white accented by a white hat that was reminiscent of To Catch a Thief. Miriam was obsessed, and asked her where she had purchased her hat. “Grace Kelly” had just returned from an adventure trip through the Sahara. This stunning woman became our muse! It was from this moment that Bochic was born.
MC: What is the biggest milestone or proudest moment in your career so far?
Bochic: Dressing Angelina Jolie for Golden Globes. She is the true embodiment of the Bochic woman – entrepreneurial, business savvy, understands a balance between work and the importance of family, philanthropic and an avid world traveler.
MC: Where is your favorite place in the world and why?
Bochic: Positano – because it is where I became inspired to create the brand.
MC: How do you feel about Marissa Collections as a home for your collection?
Bochic: Marissa is the right type of store for Bochic because it represents the lifestyle that is our brand, and – like us - is very forward thinking in terms of its core aesthetic.
MC: What personal piece of jewelry is most special to you?
Bochic: My mother’s gold cuff and gold pendant that were a gift from my father for their wedding are two pieces that are quite dear to me.
MC: What is your idea of perfect happiness?
Bochic: A house full of friends and family!
MC: What is your favorite journey?
Bochic: Every new adventure that I am able to experience is my favorite. I hope to continue to meet new people and see new locations on a regular basis because it is what inspires me.
MC: Which talent would you most like to have?
Bochic: Film director
MC: What is your most treasured possession?
Bochic: Two framed photographs of my parents from a nightclub in London in the 1960’s. The images are the epitome of chic.
MC: Who are your heroes in real life?
Bochic: Individuals that are amazing in business, are continually thinking outside the box in terms of creative endeavors, and are extremely philanthropic - such as Richard Branson. MC: What is your motto?
Bochic: I do not have a motto, so much as a word that I keep in mind and think of no matter what I am doing – whether it be personal or business related. Perseverance. It is applicable to everything, and it drives me to always think bigger.
MC: What is your favorite stone?
Bochic: It changes as I design. My stone of the moment is Jade, but I like to infuse it with color to keep it exciting. I have a long-term love affair with diamonds, all shades – both rough and finished. Visit the breathtaking Bochic collection at Marissa Collections on December 8th -10th!
