With roots in Renaissance Italian court dances and long identified with uncomfortable shoes, it is quite interesting that the most sought after footwear is ballet flats. Originally sporting a heel during the time of King Louis XIV, ballet flats have seen quite an evolution eventually morphing into the modern pointe shoes seen today on the feet of professional dancers the world around. Though, today’s fashion ballet flats resemble the first incarnation of the heelless dance shoe. Our favorites are from Bloch, who began business in 1932 and still sees great success today by not only producing fantastic and fashionable ballet flats and other footwear, but also by supplying superior quality dance shoes and apparel.
