I have always had a soft spot in my heart for duets. There is something thrilling about watching two people take on a task together and executing it with precision timing and excellence. Yes, I’m a sucker for pas de deuxor a grand love song, but what really makes me sing a song of praise is when it’s a sister act. Many a familial relationship, sisters especially, can be tainted by rivalry. And while outdoing one another is completely normal, I’m very glad when siblings can be so in sync, put their heads together, and create beauty especially in the form of fashion. There are three sister teams in particular that inspire me beyond belief and who encompass very different aspects of the industry.
The Socialites
The Courtin-Clarins sisters, Claire and Virginie, are heiresses to a multi billion dollar cosmetics and fragrance company (Obviously) and are at the top of the list when it comes to show stopping style statements. Frequently spotted on many a fashion blog attending fashion week fetes, these sisters are a fashionable force to be reckoned with. They maintain they’re unique sensibilities but are influential not only to one another but also the street style scene.
The Tastemakers
Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have been a dynamic duo from the very start. Wildly popular since their introduction to the business of acting at a very young age, it seems these uncannily similar fraternal twins have been an influence on an entire generation. Their glamorously understated line, The Rowputs their best foot forward and is a far cry from their first clothing line for Wal-Mart. Growing up can be hard but Mary-Kate and Ashley make it look almost effortless.
The Renegades
In my opinion Kate and Laura Mulleavy create a fashion reality unlike any other with their elegantly American clothing line Rodarte. Their collections are art with a homespun, almost craft, inspiration that speaks to the need for simple yet different apparel. The Mulleavy sisters’ successes are measured not in how many street style blogs they’ve appeared on but rather in their almost beneath the radar collaborations, awards garnered, and their constant push for sophisticated calm.
